The initial sketch is like the cornerstone of creation. Countless projects sparked from a tiny scribble somewhere in a sketchbook. Drawing skills are the foundation of classical painting and illustration. While the value of sketching is obvious in fine arts, film or animation, it doesn’t stop with the visual arts. Sketching applies to a wide array of other fields. Design, web design, architecture, engineering, planning, to name a few. Even some literary works started with scribbles. In that sense, drawing is akin to writing. Writing helps us to order our thoughts. To draw is learning to see. Sketching is one of the best ways to understand how things work. What is even better is that we can use sketches to trigger new ideas.
